round and round.. and round again.

I feel somewhat behind in the times, and oblivious to history.. Especially being so infatuated with music, my time has come late to be getting into records. I made a shelf to house my growing collection at work a few weeks ago, and it is slowly filling up. I imagine having a wall full of them one day. Call it a goal in life.. I just made my second order, in a collective group of friends. We go in together, take the kick of duty and shipping as a group, and eagerly await the feeling of christmas that comes in busting open a large cardboard box full of new gems. Hands rubbing together, wanting to hear the crackle and punchy quality sounds of a new record. I have 21 new pieces on route, coming from the UK.

All in a goal to one day be rid of the technology that has tainted what it means to be a DJ. The days of "hey I'm playing some records tonight! You should come down!", has somehow warped into showing up with only a backpack, filled with a laptop or a book of cds. Trading the ear, for the eye.. Matching up lines on a screen and numbers for the beat, rather than letting the beat take your direction. The journey there should be equally, if not more of a commitment, than the actual act of playing the music. They go hand in hand. Call me old fashioned, but my tastes have changed, and I hope it is for the right reason. Education through history, takes it away from being a trend in my eyes. Passion and commitment, and learning new things is all I really want.
